The City maintains 90.3 miles of streets and approximately 30 miles of storm sewer. Maintenance includes: Patching and repairing of both, asphalt and concrete streets; repairing curb, gutter, catch basins and storm sewers; street sweeping; repairing and replacement of sidewalks; tree trimming; snow removal; and repair of City maintenance equipment. These accounts include new streets, curb and gutter, and sidewalks, which are in turn assessed back against property owners. Refuse and garbage collection is provided to all residents. Recyclable products are collected through a recycling contractor. The airport is also maintained by the Public Works Department, which consists of mowing, snowplowing, repair and upkeep. The Public Works Department also maintains the Lake Tomah Dam and mowing of the Industrial Parks.

The Public Works crew may be cutting down ash trees in your neighborhood. There are many dead and dying ash trees in the boulevards, which need to be removed. If you have any questions or concerns with the tree removal, please call 608-374-7430

Excess recycling, which does not fit into recycling cart, may be taken to Modern Disposal. Please call to find cost and fees that may apply. Modern Disposal is located at 800 Townline Rd., Tomah. They can be reached at 608-372-7897.

Please help us keep our storm sewers and Lake clean by not blowing grass clippings into the streets.

The City of Tomah Public Works Department will be picking up leaves within the City of Tomah from mid-October until mid-November (weather permitting). The leaf vacuum follows the garbage route so all areas in the City will be covered.

LEAVES ONLY (NO BRANCHES, TWIGS OR ROCKS) are to be placed in the gutter OR on the alley line (whichever is the place that your regular garbage is picked up). Do not place leaves around trees, hydrants or mailbox posts and do not park on top of the leaves in the gutter. Not complying with these guidelines can cause damage to the leaf vacuum resulting in delays in the pick-up schedule.

After the deadline, City residents may still take their leaves to the compost pile near the Bloyer Field Airport along Sime Avenue.
